On the seconde half of this combination trip you make a long drive from Marrakech, crossing the Atlas Mountains, to reach the edge of the Sahara, the world largest desert, Consider staying in a comfortable desert camp to really appreciate the beauty and silence of the vast Sahara desert,
About 600 km from Marrakesh, after the pass of Tizi n'Ticka, the exceptionally still and serene valleys, you will find Ouarzazate. This tranquil city marks the commencement of the deep south. This is the escape route.
Boumalne is well suited as a starting point for a tour of the nearby Dadès Gorge. Take the N 10 out of town in the direction of Ouarzazate. The R 704, a dirt road, branches off beyond a bridge over the Dadès, about 1km/0,5mi outside the town, and leads to the gorge.
In the middle of a small oasis at the end of the Dadès Gorge, 24km/15mi east of El-Kelaâ-des-M’Gouna, lies Boumalne-du-Dadès (pop. 10,000), the chief town of the district. Jbel Sarhro, an extremely barren, rocky and rugged mountain massif, stretches out to the south.
